MusculoSkeletal disorders (MSDs) are conditions that affect the muscles, bones or joints of the body and are the leading cause of workplace injuries. The Institute of Medicine estimates that workplace MSDs cost as much as $54 billion annually, including both lost time and compensation.
Currently, there is no effective and affordable means to monitor an employee’s biomechanical function, the key challenge of effective work-related MSD management. Until now, medical management has retrospectively (post-injury) relied on a physical examination with radiographic imaging.
medAppraise has developed and patented a Musculoskeletal Disorder Reporting System – MSDR® – that measures an individual’s physical condition through a brief, non-invasive assessment. The MSDR® system delivers objective information on biomechanical function and risk of an MSD through its proprietary algorithms and the use of state-of- the-art 3-D motion capture technology. MSDR® assessments can be utilized through the continuum of the employee healthcare cycle from pre-hire/post- offer screening to surveillance of employee “wear and tear” to post-injury rehabilitation and ultimately return-to- work.
